Shifting Paradigms 2018

Shifting Paradigms is an annual conference held at the University of Aberdeen, hosted by the Aberdeen Political Economy Group and Rethinking Economics, that highlights current challenges in economics and a plurality of approaches that can help us deal with them. The conference will be held from 16th-18th November 2018.

Shifting Paradigms 2018 will focus on three central themes:

  • Growing inequality
  • The future of technology
  • A changing climate

How policy-makers and economists deal with these issues will have a huge impact on all of our futures. Join us for a weekend of stimulating discussion and debate as put the future in focus. We have a packed weekend planned full of amazing speakers.

Deborah Hardoon, Head of Evidence, What Works Centre for Wellbeing

Undergraduate Student Essay Competition

As part of the Shifting Paradigms Conference 2018, we are holding an essay competition, which will give gifted undergraduate students the opportunity to present their papers at an academic conference one of the themes of the conferences:

  • Growing inequality
  • The future of technology
  • A changing climate

One winning essay will be selected. Travel, accommodation, and ticket costs will be covered for the winner of the competition. Make sure to submit your paper – don’t pass up the chance! All the details on how to enter can be found here.

Accommodation and Travel Fund

We are keen to lift as many financial barriers to attending the conference as possible and, as such, have set up a fund to contribute toward accommodation and travel for the trip. If you would like to attend the conference but money is proving an obstacle, please apply here.
