Glasgow University Real World Economics Society

GURWES acts as a platform for more pluralist and critical economic discussions than our curriculum generally permits. Most of our events are academic, but many have been at introductory levels and therefore accessible to many. Over the years we have been active we have run various guest lectures by primarily Glasgow-based people and an online video guest lecture by Marc Lavoie.

We’re pleased to announced our third annual conference: ‘Means or an End? Perspectives on Economic Growth’ will be happening the weekend 11th and 12th March, please see our event page for full details; https://www.facebook.com/events/462914100763847/ .

Notable
Achievements

Co-organise the annual Glasgow Economic Forum, the only student-run economics conference in Scotland.

In May 2014 we actively took part in the ISIPE Open Letter and formerly joined Rethinking Economics, which we joined in order to work with a network of like-minded groups in order to help bring about the crucial change to economics curricula and economics as a discipline. In March 2015 we launched the first Glasgow Economic Forum, together with the ‘standard economics society’ on campus.
