Pluralist Economics at Sussex (PEAS)
The Pluralist Economics at Sussex (PEAS) is a society based at University of Sussex and is part of the international network “Rethinking Economics”. Its main purpose is to organise events and talks that aim to support pluralism in the economic thinking through the promotion of critical, interdisciplinary perspectives and ethical practice in economic academia.
The PEAS organising committee has had a huge turnover in the last year, many of the members concluded their studies and will leave the committee by September 2018, so we are looking for motivated students who want to change what they are being taught! If you want to get involved, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
Notable achievements: In 2018 we ran the talk series “"Talking PEAS – Pluralist conversations about economics”, a series of talks, book launches and movie screenings featuring speakers from Sussex and from other universities and including a discussion group on Artificial Intelligence. We have also hosted a workshop along with a presentation of the RE textbook “Rethinking Economics: An Introduction to Pluralist Economics”.
In 2015 and 2016 we ran the lecture series "How Economists Explain the World - An Introduction to the Big Questions of Economics and Various Perspectives to Answer Them”. Included renowned speakers such as Mariana Mazzucato, Stephany Griffith-Jones, Ed Steinmueller and others.
